Top Colors for 2013 by Victoria Lee Guttinger

Top Colors for 2013

If you’ve seen Jim Draper’s new show at the Cummer Art Gallery you’d have had the pleasure of seeing Florida’s flora and fauna represented with an explosion of color. Ironically this Jacksonville artist’s newest series celebrating the 500th anniversary of the first European engagement with Florida” is a great example of the vibrant hues taking center stage this year.

“Pascua Florida: Feast of Flowers” illustrates Pantones’s top colors for spring; Monoco Blue, Dusk Blue, Emerald and Grayed Jade. Twice a year Pantone, a company which is best known for its Pantone Matching System (PMS), hosts a secret meeting and picks a color for the following year. It is then published in Pantone View which fashion, graphic and other designers purchase to help guide their creations and plan for future products. For 2013 the Pantone color of the year is Emerald, a green that conveys a sense of harmony and a love of nature.

If you are in the mood for an interior design update nothing changes your space like color. While Emerald may be the hue of the year this doesn’t mean that you have to paint your rooms green to stay current. At ADG Valerie and Andrea add color through textiles, art, rugs and custom bedding and draperies. Call for a design appointment or come by the shop to see our collection of unique lamps and accessories and refresh your look today!
